Assistant accountant

About the role

Wong & Suen Financial Services Pty Ltd is a professional accounting practice seeking a part-time Assistant Accountant to join our small team in Chatswood, NSW. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your accounting career within a dynamic and supportive financial services environment. Working on a part-time basis, this role offers flexibility whilst allowing you to gain valuable experience across a range of accounting and taxation skills. You will support our accounting and taxation jobs and contribute to the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions as well as work on various tax returns.

Key responsibilities

• preparation of workings for various tax returns including income tax returns, BAS, etc

• Preparation and lodgement of various tax returns

• Processing and recording financial transactions including invoices, payments and receipts in accordance with company procedures

• Maintaining accurate accounting records and ensuring all documentation is properly filed and organised

• Assisting with the preparation of bank reconciliations and identifying discrepancies

• Supporting the month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and adjusting entries

• Providing administrative support to the firm as required

• Assisting with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions

• Preparing financial reports and statements under supervision

• Liaising with internal departments and external parties regarding accounting and taxation matters

• Supporting compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements

What we're looking for

• Completed or near-completion of a qualification in Accounting or a related discipline (such as bookkeeping or accounting technician certification)

• Proficiency but not mandatory in accounting software packages and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Handisoft, Xero, Simple Fund and MYOB

• Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail with the ability to work with accuracy in financial data

• Knowledge of accounting principles, double-entry bookkeeping and general ledger management

• Excellent organisational and time management skills

• Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment

• A conscientious approach to compliance and record-keeping

• Experience in an accounting and taxation role or relevant work exposure is highly desirable

• Knowledge of professional accounting services or similar industries would be advantageous
