The School Counselor/ Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Counsellor is a dedicated professional responsible for fostering the holistic social, emotional, and psychological well-being of all students. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive, proactive, and preventative SEL program that integrates into the school's culture and curriculum. The SEL Counsellor provides direct support to students, works collaboratively with teachers and parents, and serves as a vital resource in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

Key Responsibilities:
A. Direct Student Support and Counselling:
Provide individual and small group counselling to students experiencing social-emotional challenges, including anxiety, stress, peer conflicts, self-esteem issues, grief, and other well-being concerns.
Implement crisis intervention strategies and provide immediate support to students in distress, working collaboratively with school leadership and external emergency services when necessary.
Conduct needs assessments to identify prevalent social-emotional challenges among the student population and inform program development.
Refer students and families to external mental health professionals or community resources when long-term or specialized intervention is required.
Maintain confidential student records in accordance with professional ethical guidelines and school policy.
B. SEL Program Development and Implementation:
Design, develop, and deliver a tiered, school-wide SEL curriculum (e.g., through classroom lessons, workshops, assemblies, advisory programs) based on established SEL frameworks (e.g., CASEL's five core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making).
Integrate SEL principles and practices into the daily life of the school, collaborating with teachers to embed SEL into subject areas and classroom management.
Develop and lead workshops for students on topics such as stress management, resilience, healthy relationships, digital citizenship, conflict resolution, and mindfulness.
Organize and facilitate student support groups focused on specific needs (e.g., new students, grief support, managing anxiety).
Promote a positive school culture that emphasizes empathy, respect, inclusivity, and emotional literacy.
C. Collaboration and Consultation:
Consult regularly with teachers, administrators, and parents regarding student well-being, behavior, and social-emotional development.
Provide strategies and resources to teachers to support SEL in the classroom and identify students who may require additional support.
Facilitate communication and collaboration between school and home to ensure a consistent approach to student well-being.
Work closely with other student support services (e.g., learning support, career counselling, health office) to provide holistic care.
Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss student cases and develop intervention plans.
D. Parent and Community Engagement:
Conduct parent workshops and information sessions on topics related to child and adolescent social-emotional development, parenting strategies, and supporting well-being at home.
Provide resources to parents to help them navigate challenges and support their children's emotional health.
Liaise with external mental health professionals and community agencies to build a network of support for students and families.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 2 years of experience in student counselling or university admissions guidance, or demonstrated familiarity with these areas. Preferably in an international school environment.
Highly organized, student-focused, and able to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and teachers.
Able to demonstrate fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills.
Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, SEL frameworks (e.g.,CASEL), and mental health fundamentals
