About the role
The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of all mechanical scope of activities associated with hyperscale and colocation data centre projects. The role ensures mechanical systems are installed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and commissioning requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, commissioning teams, and internal stakeholders to deliver mission-critical infrastructure projects to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities
Manage all mechanical scope of activities throughout the project lifecycle
Oversee installation of mechanical systems including HVAC systems, chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, pipework installations, cooling towers, pumps and associated plant, fuel systems, and fire protection interfaces
Ensure works are delivered in line with project programme and milestones
Monitor and drive mechanical subcontractor performance
Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, civil and architectural disciplines
Identify and mitigate construction risks and delays
Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across the project and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations
Conduct site inspections, safety audits and toolbox talks, and review and approve method statements and risk assessments
Participate in project planning meetings and construction reviews, and develop short-term and long-term construction strategies
Ensure mechanical installations meet project specifications and industry standards, implement and monitor project quality plans, and manage inspections, testing and quality assurance processes
About you
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid certification (or equivalent)
Proven experience in mechanical scope of activities in construction or data centre industry
Proven experience delivering large-scale data centre projects
Experience with data centres white and grey spaces (at least one)
Experience within mission-critical environments
Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems
Experience of liquid-cooling or chiller system in data centre environment
Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams
Track record of delivering projects safely, on time and within budget
