Shipping Agency Manager

About the role

This document contains three distinct shipping agency positions based in Indonesia. The Shipping Agency Manager oversees full-cycle ship agency operations in the Indonesia region, managing bulk/general cargo vessel agency from berth arrival, joint customs inspection, cargo operations, to departure clearance. The Shipping Field Officer / Cargo Superintendent oversees cargo loading/discharging operations on board and liaises with vessel masters and local port operators. The Shipping Operations Clerk prepares, reviews, and archives full import/export documentation for vessel port calls.

Salary: Up to IDR 50 Million/month
Negotiable based on experience, qualifications, and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the full-cycle ship agency operations in the Indonesia region, managing bulk/general cargo vessel agency from berth arrival, joint customs inspection, cargo operations, to departure clearance

• Manage and coordinate local field operations and on-site personnel, covering shift scheduling, task assignment, team leadership, training, and performance appraisal

• Maintain and develop government and business relationships with Indonesian maritime authorities, customs, immigration, health inspection, port operators, pilot stations, tugboat operators, and suppliers; handle port inspections, policy liaison, and on-site problem resolution

• Liaise in bilingual (Chinese/English) with domestic headquarters, overseas foreign shipowners, and vessel masters on voyage planning, business communication, requests handling, daily progress reporting, and operational briefings

• Review and approve local port dues, agency fees, vessel supply charges, and demurrage/despatch fees; control costs, reconcile accounts, manage financial risks, and follow up on payments

• Oversee local vessel compliance, implementing Indonesian maritime, environmental, crew immigration, and tax regulations to prevent fines, vessel detention, and compliance breaches

• Take full responsibility for emergency handling, including crew change/repatriation, spare parts supply, vessel fumigation, waste/sewage disposal, cargo disputes, and cargo damage claims

• Maintain business ledgers and monthly operational reports; conduct operational reviews; optimize local workflows; fulfill headquarters KPIs; maintain client relationships and develop local agency business

Requirements:

• 3+ years of full-cycle ship agency operations and management experience in Indonesia, with solid knowledge of bulk/general cargo local agency procedures

• Proficient in Indonesia's four major port joint-inspection policies and local maritime/customs regulations; experienced in managing government relations and emergency situations

• Fluent English for independent liaison with foreign shipowners; basic Bahasa Indonesia communication ability

• Familiar with port fee accounting; strong cost control, reconciliation, and financial risk management capability

• Proven ability to manage overseas field teams and independently handle local emergencies, compliance, and government/client relations
