Job Summary
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization within the kitchen and food preparation areas. The role supports kitchen operations by ensuring that all utensils, equipment, cookware, and work areas meet the highest hygiene and safety standards required in a 5-star hotel environment.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning and Sanitation
- Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, cutlery, cookware, and kitchen utensils.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen workstations, food preparation areas, storage rooms, and service areas.
- Ensure compliance with hotel sanitation, hygiene, and food safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, drains, refrigerators, freezers, and waste disposal areas.
- Follow proper cleaning schedules and procedures.
Kitchen Support
- Assist chefs and kitchen staff by ensuring a continuous supply of clean kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Organize and store kitchen tools and equipment in designated areas.
- Assist in receiving, unloading, and storing deliveries when required.
- Support banquet, catering, and special event operations as needed.
Waste Management
- Collect, segregate, and dispose of waste according to hotel policies and environmental regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of garbage disposal and recycling areas.
- Ensure proper handling of food waste and used cooking materials.
Equipment Care and Maintenance
- Operate dishwashing machines and other stewarding equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of stewarding equipment.
- Report malfunctioning equipment, damages, and maintenance concerns to supervisors immediately.
- Properly handle and safeguard hotel-owned equipment and supplies.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and occupational health and safety regulations.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to safety guidelines.
- Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a safe and hazard-free working environment.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward, Dishwasher, or Housekeeping Staff is an advantage but not required.
- Knowledge of basic sanitation and food safety practices is preferred.
- Capable of standing for long periods and lifting heavy items.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, holidays, and overtime when necessary.
