ABOUT KOALISI EKONOMI MEMBUMI (KEM)

Koalisi Ekonomi Membumi (KEM) is a strategic coalition committed to advancing a responsible bioeconomy in Indonesia. As a catalyst for collaboration, a bridge across value chains, a hub for knowledge and learning, a builder of narratives, and a driver of policy innovation, KEM brings together businesses, civil society organizations, investors, philanthropic institutions, governments, and ecosystem enablers to accelerate systemic change.

We believe that Indonesia’s social, environmental, and economic challenges cannot be solved through fragmented efforts. Meaningful transformation requires collective action across sectors, stakeholders, and value chains. KEM exists to convene, align, and mobilize diverse actors around a shared vision of a more inclusive, competitive, and regenerative economy. With 29 member organizations and a growing ecosystem of partners, KEM drives its work through the Value-Chain Collaboration Canvas (VC3), a portfolio-based framework that connects sustainable jurisdictions, responsible businesses, and financing opportunities to create scalable impact. Aligned with Indonesia’s bioeconomy principles, VC3 serves as a blueprint for designing, connecting, and scaling business models while strengthening measurable impact, financial viability, and access to funding.
KEM’s long-term ambition is reflected in three collective targets: supporting 100 sustainability-committed jurisdictions, connecting 100 sustainable businesses to value chains and markets, and unlocking USD 200 million in transactions, investments, and financing for nature-positive and community-centered initiatives.

Our current commodity priorities include agroforestry, bamboo, coconut, coffee, cacao, aquaculture, and ecosystem services. Through the KEM Companies Network (KCN), sustainable businesses are connected with knowledge, innovation, markets, policymakers, and financing opportunities to accelerate the adoption of commercially viable and responsible practices. To advance this vision, KEM operates through three flagship programs:

  • Value Chain Collaboration & Innovation Lab (VACIL): developing and scaling collaborative VC3 projects through project development, fundraising, and policy advocacy.
  • Learning Nest: strengthening ecosystem capacity through knowledge production, learning platforms, workshops, and peer-to-peer exchange.
  • Spotlight: amplifying Indonesia’s responsible bioeconomy narrative through storytelling, ambassadors, campaigns, and ecosystem engagement.
