Music Engraver and Editor Pool

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Music Engravers and Editors to join our team. The ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of music notation, as well as the technical expertise to produce visually accurate, polished sheet music. This role involves transforming handwritten or digital drafts into clean, professional scores ready for publication or performance. The Music Engraver and Editor will work closely with composers, arrangers, and publishers to ensure that all musical elements are correctly notated and formatted. This is an open pool application for part-time, contractor/freelancer work.

Work availability depends on current project load submitted to Songburd Music.

Key Responsibilities:

• Music Engraving: Convert handwritten or digital music manuscripts into clear, accurate sheet music using music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius, Dorico).
• Editing & Proofreading: Review and edit music for accuracy, clarity, and consistency, ensuring all musical markings (dynamics, articulations, clefs, time signatures, etc.) are correctly placed and legible.
• Formatting & Layout: Ensure proper layout and spacing of musical elements on the page for optimal readability and aesthetic quality. Follow industry standards for various types of music publications.
• Collaboration: Work closely with composers, arrangers, and other team members to discuss notation preferences, revisions, and stylistic guidelines.
• Quality Control: Conduct thorough reviews of finalized scores and parts to detect and correct any inconsistencies or errors before publication.
• File Management: Manage revisions and updates to sheet music, tracking multiple versions and ensuring proper version control.
• Delivery & Deadlines: Produce high-quality final files in various formats (PDF, Finale/Sibelius files, etc.) and deliver completed projects on time.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius, Dorico) is required.
• Strong knowledge of music theory, classical music notation, and contemporary music notation practices.
• Excellent attention to detail and an eye for precision in layout, alignment, and spacing.
• Previous experience with music engraving, editing, or publishing is preferred.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with composers, arrangers, and other stakeholders.
• Knowledge of different musical genres and the ability to adapt notation styles accordingly.
