Crop Surveillance Assistant

The Assistant Crop Surveillance is a field-based technical and supervisory role responsible for implementing and maintaining pest surveillance systems across sugarcane operations in Merauke.

The role ensures accurate, timely, and standardized pest monitoring, supports data-driven pest management decisions, and strengthens the execution of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.

In addition, the position provides on-ground leadership to field technicians, ensures compliance with operational and safety standards, and maintains the integrity of surveillance data and equipment protocols.

Job Descriptions:

* Implement standardized pest monitoring protocols across all sugarcane fields

* Conduct routine inspections to detect early-stage infestations, particularly moth borer

* Ensure surveillance coverage aligns with operational risk areas and planting schedules

* Collect, validate, and analyze field surveillance data

* Identify trends, threshold risks, and emerging pest patterns

* Prepare accurate weekly and monthly reports for operational and R&D use

* Supervise and guide field technicians to ensure consistency and data accuracy

* Assign daily tasks and monitor completion against work plans

* Provide on-the-job technical coaching and performance feedback

* Develop daily and weekly surveillance plans aligned with plantation priorities

* Support pest management strategy development and contingency planning

* Participate in cross-functional coordination with Agronomy and R&D teams

* Ensure adherence to SOPs, safety standards, and operational protocols

* Maintain proper sterilization and handling of field equipment

* Support continuous improvement in surveillance systems and processes

Requirements:

* Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Entomology, Crop Protection, Plant Pathology, or related field

* Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in agricultural operations or pest management

* Strong understanding of pest identification, monitoring methods, and control strategies

* Experience in field data collection and basic analytical reporting

* Demonstrated ability to supervise field teams and ensure task completion

* Strong attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and reliability

* Ability to work independently in remote, field-based environments

* Clear written and verbal communication skills

* Basic English proficiency is advantageous

* Willingness to be based on-site in Merauke, Papua
