The Veterinarian is responsible for overseeing animal health, biosecurity, and welfare programs across contract-growing swine farms to ensure optimal productivity and disease prevention. This role leads disease monitoring and control initiatives, provides technical guidance to farm personnel, and ensures compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The position also supports operational performance by analyzing health data, implementing best practices, and promoting sustainable and profitable farm operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee biosecurity programs, animal health, and welfare standards across all contract-growing swine farms.
- Develop and implement vaccination, medication, treatment, and disease prevention strategies.
- Conduct routine farm inspections to evaluate biosecurity measures, animal welfare, and overall farm performance.
- Diagnose diseases and health concerns through clinical assessments, behavioral observations, and laboratory results, and recommend appropriate treatments.
- Analyze disease patterns, outbreak trends, and seasonal health risks to establish preventive health programs.
- Lead investigations during disease outbreaks and implement immediate containment and control measures.
- Manage disease surveillance, sample collection, reporting, and compliance with Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) requirements, including ASF monitoring.
- Provide technical support, training, and guidance to Production Officers, farm staff, and contract growers on animal health and management practices.
- Ensure proper handling, usage, and inventory management of veterinary medicines and vaccines.
- Maintain accurate health, treatment, and production records, and prepare regular performance and veterinary reports.
- Coordinate with laboratories, government agencies, suppliers, and other stakeholders on animal health-related matters.
- Support operational decisions that improve productivity, animal welfare, and farm profitability.
- Monitor mortality and morbidity rates and analyze data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) graduate with a valid PRC Veterinary License.
- At least 2–3 years of experience in commercial swine production, preferably within contract-growing operations.
- Strong knowledge of swine health management, biosecurity protocols, disease prevention, and ASF control programs.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to operate a four-wheel vehicle.
- Excellent analytical, leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong report-writing skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.
- Knowledge of financial concepts, including ROI, IRR, cost-benefit analysis, and feasibility studies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, customers, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage personnel, and enforce company policies and standards.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple responsibilities.
