About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cobol Developer to join PT. SIGMA GLOBAL TEKNOLOGI (SIGMATECH) on a contract basis. This is a pivotal position within our Information & Communication Technology division, where you will play a crucial role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing our legacy and modern systems. Based in Central Jakarta, Jakarta, this role offers the opportunity to work with established technologies whilst contributing to critical business applications that power our organisation's operations. You will be instrumental in ensuring the stability, performance, and evolution of our Cobol-based infrastructure.

What you'll be doing

1. Design, develop, and maintain Cobol applications and programmes that meet business requirements and technical specifications

2. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented Cobol code following established coding standards and best practices

3. Conduct thorough testing and debugging of Cobol applications to ensure optimal performance and reliability

4. Collaborate with business analysts, system architects, and other developers to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions

5. Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members to maintain code quality standards

6. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues and performance bottlenecks in Cobol systems

7. Participate in system migrations, upgrades, and modernisation initiatives as required

8. Create and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, code documentation, and user guides

9. Assist in the analysis and optimisation of existing Cobol applications to improve efficiency and reduce technical debt

What we're looking for

1. Proven professional experience as a Cobol Developer with a minimum of 3-5 years in production development environments

2. Strong expertise in Cobol programming, including knowledge of Cobol syntax, data structures, and file handling techniques

3. Experience with legacy system maintenance and modernisation projects

4. Proficiency in working with databases, such as DB2, Oracle, or equivalent mainframe databases

5. Familiarity with mainframe environments and batch processing systems

6. Understanding of system analysis and design principles relevant to large-scale applications

7. Experience with version control systems and software development lifecycle practices

8. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in complex coding scenarios

9. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams

10. Preferred: Experience with Java, XML, or web service integration technologies

11. Preferred: Knowledge of agile development methodologies and practices
