About AME Group
AME Group is a leading provider of consulting and research services to the Metals & Mining and Coal & Consumable Fuels industries. Drawing on more than 50 years of industry expertise, we deliver bespoke consulting engagements, subscription research, and software-as-a-service products to clients globally.
About the Role
We are seeking a UX/UI Designer to improve the flow and usability of our existing software products. This is a hands-on, product-focused role that sits between stakeholders and the development team. You will work with multiple stakeholders to understand business requirements, translate them into user flows and interface designs, and drive the improvements through to delivery, working across both the user experience (flows, structure, interaction) and the user interface (layout, visual design, consistency).
A UX/UI Designer is primarily responsible for:
Working with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements and the problems our products need to solve
Reviewing existing applications to identify usability and flow problems, and proposing concrete improvements
Running a design cycle, that is, producing wireframes and flows, playing them back to stakeholders, and refining based on feedback
Partnering closely with the QA Analyst to turn agreed designs into clear, tightly scoped work plans for developers
You will work closely with our development team, QA Analyst, and the research and analyst teams, making sure design improvements are grounded in real business needs and in how the products have already been built.
Key Responsibilities
With a primary focus on improving the usability of our existing products and shaping the work that flows to developers, the UX/UI Designer will be responsible for:
Engaging multiple stakeholders to gather and clarify business requirements, and translating them into design solutions
Conducting reviews of current applications and surfacing where flow, usability, or visual consistency can be improved
Designing and documenting user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity interface designs
Running an iterative design cycle, presenting wireframes and flows to stakeholders, capturing feedback, and modifying designs until there is agreement
Working alongside the QA Analyst to translate agreed designs into tight, well-defined work plans and tickets for the development team
Establishing and maintaining consistent UI patterns and a shared design language across products
Partnering with developers to ensure designs are implemented as intended, and refining based on real usage and feedback
Qualification and Experience
This is a mid-to-senior role centred on improving existing products, not designing from a blank page. It is as much about communication as it is about design work, you will spend much of your time working with stakeholders, making a case for change, presenting and defending your thinking, and shaping the work that reaches developers. Candidates who are only interested in greenfield or pure brand/visual design work, who are uncomfortable designing within existing technical constraints, or who would rather not spend significant time engaging stakeholders and collaborating closely with developers and QA, are unlikely to be a good fit.
Required
Solid experience in UX/UI or product design (typically 4+ years), with a portfolio that shows improvements to real, working products
Strong command of both UX (user flows, information architecture, interaction design) and UI (layout, typography, visual hierarchy)
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, able to gather requirements, run design playback sessions, and build agreement across different groups
Confident reviewing an existing application and articulating clearly what should change and why
Experience translating designs and requirements into clear, well-scoped work for developers
Proficiency with a modern design tool such as Figma
Highly Desirable
Tertiary (university level) degree focused on interaction design, UX design, HCI digital/product Design, or graphic design (or similar relevant degree)
Experience designing for web applications built in Angular, and an understanding of component-based UI
Familiarity with design systems and maintaining consistency at scale
Prior exposure to requirements gathering or business analysis
Some front-end experience (HTML/CSS) would be useful for collaboration with the existing development team
Familiarity with Azure DevOps
An interest in, or exposure to, the resources, commodities, or research data domain
Technical Skills
Confident with a modern design and prototyping tool (e.g. Figma or similar)
Able to produce wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs
Clear, structured documentation of designs and requirements for a development audience
A working understanding of component-based front-end architecture and its design implications
Understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile delivery
Strong attention to detail and a methodical, structured approach
Fluent written and spoken English (essential)
