Lead Geotechnical Engineer and Lead Hydrogeologist (Vanuatu)

About the role

Shimizu Corporation is seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineer and a Lead Hydrogeologist to join our team in the country of Vanuatu. We are preparing the civil infrastructure project, offering a unique opportunity to lead geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations and projects in a dynamic and challenging environment. As Lead Geotechnical Engineer and Lead Hydrogeologist, you will be instrumental in overseeing critical foundation design, ground stability assessment, and water resource management for our major infrastructure and construction projects. This role carries significant responsibility for ensuring project success, safety, and compliance with international standards whilst working in a tropical, geologically complex region.

Key responsibilities

Lead and manage geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, soil and rock testing, and ground behavior analysis for major civil engineering projects

1. Design and supervise hydrogeological assessments, groundwater flow modelling, and water resource evaluations to support project planning and environmental compliance

2. Develop comprehensive geotechnical reports and recommendations, including foundation design solutions, slope stability analyses, and ground improvement strategies

3. Conduct hydrogeological risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for groundwater-related hazards and environmental concerns

4. Supervise and coordinate field investigations, including borehole drilling, laboratory testing, and in-situ monitoring programs

5. Collaborate with structural engineers, civil engineers, and project managers to integrate geotechnical and hydrogeological findings into project design and construction planning

6. Ensure all investigations and designs comply with relevant national regulations, international standards, and Shimizu Corporation quality assurance protocols

7. Prepare technical specifications and tender documents for geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations and specialist works

8. Conduct site inspections, quality control audits, and monitoring during construction phases to verify geotechnical assumptions and construction methodologies

What we're looking for

1. Professional qualification as a Geotechnical Engineer and Hydrogeologist (or equivalent dual expertise) with recognition in a relevant jurisdiction

2. Total work 15 years of professional experience

3. Minimum experience in relevant position as a Lead Geotechnical Engineer or Lead Hydrologist 12 years

4. Has the working experience in Pacific or SIDS (Island countries including Singapore)

5. Demonstrated expertise in foundation design, ground stability analysis, slope stability assessment, and geotechnical risk management

6. Strong knowledge of hydrogeological principles, groundwater flow analysis, aquifer characterization, and water resource management

7. Proven ability to develop detailed technical reports and design recommendations for complex infrastructure projects

8. Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders

9. Leadership and mentoring capabilities with demonstrated ability to manage and develop technical teams

10. Knowledge of relevant international standards, building codes, and environmental regulations for geotechnical and hydrogeological engineering

11. Willingness to work in Vanuatu
