Got a spark for creativity and tech? We're hairyLemon, a fast-paced, client-first digital agency in Christchurch. We're hunting for an awesome full-stack developer who has a passion for code, intuitive problem-solving skills, and loves being part of a team.

This role is part-time, 20-30 hours per week, and would suit an experienced contract developer looking for greater stability, or a developer seeking flexibility and work-life balance without sacrificing interesting, challenging projects.

About the role

This is a full stack development role within our fast-paced, fun-loving, results-focused digital agency. You can expect to:

• Dive head first into new and exciting website and web application projects.

• Work across both front end and back end, from UI through to server-side logic.

• Own your projects managing tasks from start to finish, including troubleshooting, communicating directly with clients, and looping back with our internal team.

• Working directly with clients across job and project scoping, training sessions, meetings and presentations when required.

• Explore new technology offerings for our customers and scope approaches for new projects.

• Help make our customers’ business goals a reality through your technical know-how.

• Grow your skills on the job, collaborating with a team of talented developers, creatives and marketers.

• Balance independent project work with collaboration on larger builds.

About you

You'll be a talented developer with 5+ years of relevant experience.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

• Solid skills in core web technologies including HTML, CSS (including Tailwind), and JavaScript.

• Experience with PHP and PHP-based content management systems (e.g. Laravel, Statamic, WordPress).

• Comfort working with MySQL databases, queries, schema design, troubleshooting.

• An understanding of Git workflows, build tools and package managers.

• Experience with Vue.js (or another modern JavaScript framework such as React).

• A solid understanding of eCommerce platforms, particularly Shopify and WooCommerce.

• Experience with headless architecture, developing APIs, and integrating multiple systems through API-driven workflows.

• Experience with web hosting environments and deployment, including shared, VPS, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Digital Ocean, or similar).

• A detail-oriented approach with a focus on delivering accurate, high-quality work and thoroughly testing your code before deployment.

• Understanding of web performance best practices (loading speed, SEO, accessibility).

• The ability to work across multiple projects and/or switch focus when priorities change (that's agency life!)

• A drive for continuous personal development and the ability to take constructive feedback on board.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to keep clients informed across phone, email, and in-person interactions, while collaborating effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Nice to have:

• Experience with mobile app development (not essential).

• Digital agency experience
