About MAYA Balian

MAYA Balian is a retreat destination opening in West Bali on October 1st, purpose-built for groups focused on movement, wellness and performance. The property includes 12 private rooms, an indoor and outdoor shala, a functional training gym, a ceremonial fire pit, and a dedicated wellness restoration garden.

MAYA is the sister property of Yama Balian, an established retreat venue with hundreds of hosted retreats, an engaged Instagram community, and a loyal base of alumni. This gives MAYA a rare advantage for a launch: real demand, a real audience, and a real track record before day one.

The brand is built on four values — movement, fire/passion, tribe/community, and energy — and every piece of marketing should carry that spirit.

The Opportunity

This is a rare role: joining a hospitality brand at the exact moment it comes into existence. There is no marketing department to inherit, no legacy content to maintain, no backlog to clean up. Everything — the Instagram presence, the launch campaign, the PR relationships, the content library, the way MAYA sounds and looks to the world — gets built from scratch, by you, alongside the Creative Director.

You'll be doing this with real wind at your back: an established sister property with hundreds of hosted retreats, a highly engaged Instagram following, a newsletter with an exceptional open rate, ~80 superfan alumni already primed to book, and two retreats already confirmed organically before any formal marketing existed. Few marketing hires get to start with proof of demand already in hand.

The center of gravity for the first months is the October 1st opening — but the role is not about executing a checklist toward that date. It's about building the marketing muscle and brand voice that MAYA will run on long after opening day.

The Role

We're looking for a local Marketing Manager to build and lead MAYA's brand presence, from the ground up, through launch and beyond. This is a hands-on, founder-style role for someone who wants to originate a brand rather than maintain one that already exists. You'll work closely with the Creative Director to translate the property's design and philosophy into a marketing engine that fills retreats.

Responsibilities

  • Build MAYA's marketing function essentially from zero: strategy, channels, calendar, tone of voice, and systems — there is no existing playbook to follow.

  • Own the brand's Instagram presence, from launch through ongoing growth: content strategy, captions, community engagement, and visual consistency with the four brand values.

  • Lead the go-to-market sequence toward opening — from warm outreach to the existing superfan and alumni base, to the newsletter and social announcements, to the public PR and influencer push — adapting the plan as real feedback comes in rather than following a fixed script.

  • Plan and drive the brand photo/video shoot that anchors MAYA's public content, briefing locations, styling, and shot list.

  • Conceive and execute the influencer/PR box campaign, translating MAYA's four brand values into tangible, postable objects, and manage the send-out and follow-up.

  • Source, brief and manage a paid-per-project Content Creator.

  • Own outreach materials — brochures, decks, one-pagers — used in warm, pre-qualified prospect conversations.

  • Track what's working — engagement, newsletter performance, booking inquiries — and use it to keep sharpening the approach.

  • Coordinate closely with the sales/retreat operations partner so marketing always reflects real availability and capacity.

  • Own the opening itself as a marketing moment: live coverage, storytelling, and the transition from launch mode into steady-state marketing operations.

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5+ years of experience in marketing, ideally in hospitality, wellness, fitness, or lifestyle brands.

  • Strong instinct for visual brand storytelling — you know what a good Instagram grid and a good caption feel like.

  • Comfortable working independently and fast, with a founder-style team rather than a large marketing department.

  • Experience planning or producing a photo/video shoot is a strong plus.

  • Fluent English, since the audience is international.

  • Based in Bali, or willing to relocate.
