Our client is looking for aStructural Engineerwith extensive commercial building design experience to join their team as a full-time remote professional. They are a U.S.-based structural engineering firm specializing in cold-formed steel, structural design, and connection engineering for commercial, institutional, and residential construction. In recent years, they have expanded their multistate reach, completed a diverse portfolio of complex projects, and strengthened their design capabilities through modern structural and drafting technologies.

The ideal candidate will have 10 to 15 years of structural engineering experience and be capable of independently managing commercial projects from initial analysis through final design documentation. This person will collaborate closely with drafters, communicate directly with clients, and develop practical, code-compliant solutions for both load-bearing and non-load-bearing applications.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of commercial building projects.
  • Design cold-formed metal framing systems for load-bearing and non-load-bearing applications.
  • Engineer walls, wall openings, jambs, headers, sills, built-up beams, shear walls, floor joists, roof joists, and associated connections.
  • Evaluate gravity and lateral load paths throughout commercial structures.
  • Complete structural calculations using engineering software and manual calculation methods.
  • Apply relevant provisions of the International Building Code and ASCE 7.
  • Independently manage assigned projects from initial review through final completion.
  • Coordinate with drafters and clearly communicate structural design requirements.
  • Review drawings, prepare redlines, and oversee revisions using Bluebeam.
  • Verify that final drawings and calculations accurately reflect the approved structural design.
  • Communicate directly with clients to resolve technical questions during the design and construction phases.
  • Respond promptly to project-related communications through email and phone.
  • Provide practical solutions when design conflicts, field conditions, or construction issues arise.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and support timely project delivery.

Requirements

  • Between 10 and 15 years of structural engineering experience focused on commercial buildings.
  • Demonstrated experience designing multiple commercial building types.
  • Strong understanding of gravity and lateral load paths.
  • Experience with both load-bearing and non-load-bearing structural applications.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu.
  • Ability to use the essential drafting and review functions in AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of the International Building Code.
  • Practical experience applying ASCE 7 standards.
  • Ability to independently perform structural analysis and design.
  • Experience completing calculations through both software and hand-calculation methods.
  • Ability to manage a structural project from beginning to end while coordinating with a drafter.
  • Strong redlining, drawing-review, and quality-control capabilities.
  • Professional English communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, drafters, and construction professionals.
  • Reliable and responsive communication through email, phone, and video meetings.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering program.
  • Strong commercial building design portfolio or project history.
  • Sound engineering judgment and the ability to identify constructible solutions.
  • High level of organization, independence, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines in a remote environment.
  • Confidence discussing structural decisions and resolving technical concerns directly with clients.
  • Resume clearly demonstrating relevant commercial building design experience.
