Position Summary
A Healthcare Customer Service Representative provides high-quality support to members, patients, healthcare providers, and authorized representatives by addressing inquiries related to health insurance benefits, eligibility, claims, billing, provider networks, referrals, and other healthcare services. The role involves resolving customer concerns, processing account requests, maintaining accurate documentation, and delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and company performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, chat, or other communication channels regarding healthcare plans, insurance benefits, claims, and related services.
- Assist members with questions about eligibility, coverage, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, out-of-pocket costs, and plan benefits.
- Process requests for enrollment, account updates, address changes, ID card replacements, provider changes, and other member account services.
- Investigate and resolve claims, billing, payment, and reimbursement inquiries while providing accurate information and timely follow-up.
- Verify member information and protect confidential health information in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Educate members on healthcare plans, preventive care, provider networks, referrals, and available healthcare resources.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers, pharmacies, and internal departments to resolve customer concerns efficiently.
- Accurately document customer interactions, account updates, and case resolutions using customer relationship management (CRM) systems and other healthcare applications.
- Escalate complex customer concerns to the appropriate department when necessary.
- Deliver empathetic, patient-centered service while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality during every interaction.
- Meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs), including customer satisfaction, quality assurance, productivity, and first-call resolution goals.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with healthcare products, policies, systems, and procedures.
- Follow company policies, HIPAA regulations, and data privacy requirements to ensure compliance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's or bachelor's degree is an advantage.
- No prior experience required; customer service, healthcare, or call center experience is a plus but not mandatory.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to navigate multiple software applications simultaneously.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and CRM systems is an advantage.
- Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn healthcare policies, insurance concepts, and company procedures through training.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and company standards.
