In-House Psychiatrist — Part-Time

Location: Preferably based in Bali

Availability: Several hours per day, including weekends

Patient Base: Primarily international patients

About the Role

BaliDoc is looking for an experienced, commercially aware, and service-oriented Psychiatrist to become part of our internal medical team.

Approximately 95% of our patients are international patients, including tourists, expatriates, and foreign residents in Bali. Excellent English and the ability to communicate clearly with patients from different cultural backgrounds are therefore essential.

For the right candidate, BaliDoc intends to build and expand a dedicated mental-health department. The psychiatrist will have the opportunity to help shape its services, treatment programmes, clinical processes, partner network, and long-term direction.

This is intended as an integrated in-house role rather than an external referral arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

Psychiatric Care and Treatment Plans

  • Conduct psychiatric consultations, primarily for international patients.
  • Assess patients’ mental-health concerns, medical history, risks, current medication, and treatment needs.
  • Provide safe, ethical, and evidence-based psychiatric advice.
  • Develop appropriate treatment plans, which may include medication, follow-up consultations, therapy referrals, monitoring, or coordination with other healthcare providers.
  • Clearly explain diagnoses, treatment options, expected outcomes, risks, costs, and next steps.
  • Confidently guide suitable patients toward proceeding with appropriate treatment programmes.
  • Address patient questions, concerns, and hesitation professionally.
  • Issue prescriptions, referrals, medical letters, and supporting documentation when clinically and legally appropriate.
  • Monitor treatment progress and adjust treatment plans where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, patient confidentiality, and high ethical standards.
  • The psychiatrist is expected to provide appropriate medical advice as a minimum. Where ongoing care is clinically suitable, the psychiatrist should be comfortable presenting and recommending paid treatment plans in a clear, confident, and ethical manner.

Mental-Health Department Development

  • Help design and develop BaliDoc’s dedicated mental-health and psychiatric services.
  • Establish patient intake, assessment, treatment, follow-up, and escalation pathways.
  • Contribute to clinical protocols, standard operating procedures, risk-management processes, and quality standards.
  • Help develop suitable treatment programmes and ongoing-care packages for international patients.
  • Provide psychiatric input for internal technology, automation, patient education, and service-development projects.
  • Support the recruitment or selection of psychologists, counsellors, and other mental-health professionals as the department grows.

Partnerships and Professional Network

  • Build and maintain relationships with psychologists, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, rehabilitation facilities, and other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Use an established professional network in Bali to support referrals, urgent care, diagnostics, medication access, and continuity of care.
  • Identify reliable new partners and referral pathways across the island.
  • Coordinate effectively with BaliDoc’s general practitioners, operational team, and external healthcare partners.
  • Represent BaliDoc professionally and ensure all activities comply with applicable medical, ethical, and legal requirements.

Administration and Internal Projects

  • Complete administrative work related to consultations, prescriptions, referrals, follow-ups, medical documentation, and partner coordination.
  • Use BaliDoc’s digital systems and internal platforms consistently.
  • Contribute to projects supporting service improvement, company expansion, and the development of new healthcare programmes.

Requirements

  • Recognised medical degree and specialist qualification in psychiatry.
  • Valid medical registration and the appropriate active licences and permits, including a relevant SIP.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Experience communicating with international patients from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong psychiatric assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • An established professional network within Bali’s healthcare and mental-health sector.
  • Commercially aware and comfortable recommending suitable ongoing treatment programmes.
  • Able to balance patient care, medical independence, and sustainable service growth.
  • Technology-savvy and able to learn new tools and systems quickly.
  • Strong time-management, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Reliable availability for several hours per day, including weekends.
  • Proactive, adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable helping to build a new department.
  • Willing to contribute beyond consultations and take an active role in BaliDoc’s growth.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Based in Bali and familiar with its main regions, healthcare facilities, and tourist areas.
  • Experience treating tourists, expatriates, and other international patients.
  • Existing relationships with psychologists, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, specialists, and mental-health facilities across Bali.
  • Experience in telepsychiatry, private healthcare, international patient care, or multidisciplinary mental-health services.
  • Experience developing psychiatric programmes, clinical workflows, or healthcare partnerships.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a psychiatrist who is clinically strong, commercially aware, ethical, fluent in English, well connected in Bali, comfortable with technology, and motivated to help build a high-quality mental-health department for international patients.
