NPD (New Project Development) Engineer
Automotive Component Manufacturing
About the Role
The NPD Engineer is responsible for leading the end-to-end development of new automotive products — from quotation, sample production, and trials through to mass production (Start of Production/SOP). This role requires cross-functional coordination with production, quality, purchasing, and vendors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with automotive quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and monitor the master schedule for new project development, from trial phase through mass production
- Prepare technical project documents such as FMEA, Control Plan, and PPAP submission documents
- Coordinate sample production and product testing & validation in accordance with customer specifications
- Analyze technical issues arising during the trial phase and develop countermeasures
- Estimate and control project costs, including product costing analysis and tooling/dies/mold investment
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other relevant engineering field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in NPD, R&D, or Project Management within the automotive component (OEM) manufacturing industry
- Proficient in 3D design software (CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, or AutoCAD)
- Strong knowledge of IATF 16949 and Automotive Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA)
- Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping/press, die casting, welding, or assembly
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings using GD&T standards
Soft Skills
- Strong project timeline management, risk management, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both internal and external (including with customers/vendors)
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written
- Comfortable working under pressure with tight project launch deadlines
