The Carbon Project Engineer is responsible for translating project technical needs into functional engineering execution, ensuring biochar production facilities are designed, built, and commissioned in alignment with operational goals and carbon credit certification standards. The role integrates engineering oversight, vendor coordination, and data-readiness for carbon methodologies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Technology & Compliance Assessment: Conduct rigorous engineering evaluations on a wide range of pyrolysis systems to ensure compliance with major carbon standards/registry (e.g., Verra VM0044, Puro.earth, Isometric).

  • Project Support: Assist with technical assessments and support the delivery of technical work for biochar carbon projects.

  • MRV & Instrumentation Review: Support the review of sensors, PLCs, and SCADA systems used to track energy consumption, process temperatures, residence time, and emissions data in line with registry requirements.

  • Feedstock & Biochar Quality Assessment: Help evaluate whether production equipment can process different biomass feedstocks and produce biochar that meets relevant quality and permanence requirements.

  • Able to read civil and mechanical engineering drawings is a plus. 


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.

  • Experience: This position is open to experienced or fresh graduates. Final semester students are also welcome to apply. Previous research, or professional experiences in thermal engineering, biochar production, gasification, or carbon project development will be considered an advantage.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work across disciplines.


About This Role

  • Employment Type: This is a part-time position. The working hours are 10 hours per week, or 40 hours per month.

  • Work Arrangement: This is a fully remote position.

  • Candidates who demonstrate strong performance and achievements will have the opportunity to be offered a permanent position, with additional benefits (including potential stock options).
