What is Kielo Research?

Kielo Research is a boutique research consultancy specialising in patient-centred research services (patient preference studies, qualitative interviews, patient/clinician/caregiver surveys, benefit-risk assessment, multi-criteria decision analysis and others) for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. We strive to deliver the highest-quality science that helps our clients bring life-changing treatments to patients worldwide.

What does the Survey Programmer do?

Kielo Research is seeking a Survey Programmer to join our team as an Independent Contractor. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming research questionnaires designed in documents (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) into functional and high quality online surveys. The primary goal is to ensure the methodological accuracy and flawless deployment of online surveys to support patient-centred research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Survey Scripting: Program complex questionnaires using a chosen survey platform, accurately translating all skip patterns, piping, randomization, quotas, and validation rules into the survey script.
  • Quality Assurance (QA): Thoroughly test programmed surveys across various devices (desktop, mobile, tablet) and browsers to identify and fix errors, ensuring a flawless respondent experience and logical flow.
  • Advanced Logic Implementation: Utilize Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and platform-specific scripting to implement advanced features, custom appearance, complex grid layouts, and custom validation.
  • Data Management & Setup: Configure survey settings, including quotas, termination logic, links for panel providers, and internal quality checks.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear and concise documentation of all programming steps, custom code, and complex logic applied to the survey instrument.
  • Fieldwork Monitoring: Assist in monitoring live surveys, making necessary real-time adjustments (e.g., quota balancing) while maintaining data consistency.

Who are you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Market Research, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in scripting and quality-checking online surveys.
  • Expertise in at least one professional survey programming software (e.g., Decipher/Forsta, Alchemer).
  • Strong proficiency in front-end web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/jQuery) for customization and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with data file structures (e.g., CSV, JSON) and data cleaning processes.
  • Analytical Skills: High attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in debugging complex survey logic.
