Location: Sawinggrai Village, Raja Ampat, Southwest Papua
Child Aid Papua School is looking for a passionate and creative Mathematics & Science Teacher to support our students in learning through simple, practical, and conservation-based education. This position is suitable for someone who enjoys teaching children and teenagers, working in a community-based school, and connecting classroom learning with real-life situations, nature, and the environment of Raja Ampat. The role does not focus on advanced laboratory science, but on helping students understand Mathematics and Science in a meaningful, contextual, and practical way.
Main Responsibilities
The Mathematics & Science Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons for junior and/or vocational school students, with a focus on clear understanding, student engagement, and practical learning.
The teacher will:
- Teach Mathematics and Science according to the students’ level and school curriculum.
- Prepare lesson plans, learning materials, worksheets, and assessments.
- Create simple, creative, and practical learning activities.
- Connect Mathematics and Science lessons with daily life, local environment, marine life, and conservation topics.
- Support outdoor learning, field observations, student projects, and environmental education activities.
- Help students develop curiosity, logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and care for nature.
- Use simple English in teaching when needed, especially in bilingual learning activities.
- Support students with different learning abilities in a patient and encouraging way.
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to help them improve.
- Work together with other teachers and school staff to support school programmes and student development.
- Participate in school activities, conservation programmes, and community-based learning when required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have:
- Educational background in Mathematics, Science, Education, Environmental Studies, Conservation, or other related fields.
- Experience in teaching or working with children/teenagers is preferred.
- Interest in conservation, marine life, environmental education, and community development.
- Ability to explain concepts in a simple and practical way.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic English ability is an advantage.
- Creativity in designing fun and meaningful learning activities.
- Patience, flexibility, and willingness to work in a remote island community.
- Strong motivation to support students from rural and coastal communities.
Preferred Skills
- Able to create project-based or outdoor learning activities.
- Able to connect lessons with Raja Ampat’s environment, such as ocean, forest, waste management, coral reefs, mangroves, sharks, mantas, and local biodiversity.
- Able to use simple digital tools such as Microsoft Office, Canva, Google Workspace, or basic online learning platforms.
- Comfortable working in a small school team and adapting to local conditions.
