Description
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the geotechnical laboratory, ensuring all soil, aggregate, concrete, and construction material testing is conducted accurately, safely, and in accordance with company procedures and applicable standards. The position is also responsible for maintaining discipline, enforcing company policies, supervising laboratory personnel, ensuring quality control, and delivering timely and reliable test results.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, lead, and monitor the daily activities of Laboratory Technicians and other laboratory personnel.
- Plan, assign, and oversee laboratory testing schedules based on project requirements.
- Ensure all laboratory tests are performed in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, DPWH, and company standards.
- Review, verify, and approve laboratory test results before submission.
- Ensure accurate documentation, filing, and safekeeping of laboratory records and reports.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and coordinate its calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and initiate timely requests for replenishment.
- Strictly enforce laboratory safety rules, housekeeping standards, and company policies.
- Maintain discipline, professionalism, accountability, and proper work ethics among laboratory personnel.
- Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, productivity, and compliance with laboratory procedures and work instructions.
- Address performance and behavioral concerns through coaching, corrective action, proper documentation, and recommendations for disciplinary measures in accordance with company policies.
- Ensure all laboratory staff comply with instructions, quality standards, and project deadlines.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory personnel to improve competency and performance.
- Investigate testing discrepancies and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with the Operations, Field, and Business Development teams regarding testing schedules and project requirements.
- Prepare laboratory performance reports and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience, with 1–2 years in a supervisory role preferred.
- Knowledge of geotechnical and construction materials testing procedures.
- Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, DPWH, and other applicable testing standards.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing laboratory personnel with a firm, disciplined, and results-oriented leadership style.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and report preparation.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects.
