Mechanical Design Engineer – Water Industry / Pumping Stations

As a Mechanical Design Engineer – Water Industry, you will join our growing team in Birmingham to support projects within the water and utilities sector, with a particular focus on pumping stations and associated infrastructure.This role centres on the design and development of pump systems, mechanical layouts, and piping networks, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as WIMES and delivering robust, efficient solutions for water treatment and distribution systems.You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to produce high-quality engineering designs across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to detailed design and implementation.Location: Birmingham On Site: Fairly Remote with occasional site visit to Birmingham Clearance: BPSSExperience Level: 5- 10YOEKey Responsibilities: Experience with Mechanical Design & Pumping SystemsDesign and develop pumping stations, including mechanical layouts and equipment selectionSpecify and size pumps, pipework systems, valves, and associated mechanical equipmentProduce detailed design calculations, technical drawings, and specificationsEnsure designs meet performance, reliability, and maintainability requirementsApply relevant water industry standards, including WIMESEnsure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulationsSupport design reviews and ensure alignment with project and client requirementsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, electrical, and process engineersSupport project phases including design, procurement, installation, and commissioningLiaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure technical compliance and qualityIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency, cost, and sustainability of mechanical systemsContribute to continuous improvement in design methods and engineering practicesSupport the integration of new technologies within water infrastructure projectsRequired Skills:Strong experience in mechanical design within the water or utilities sectorProven experience designing pumping stations, pumps, and piping systemsUnderstanding of mechanical principles, fluid systems, and hydraulic calculationsFamiliarity with WIMES standards and water industry practicesRequired Qualifications: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or equivalentmilitary experienceDesirable Skills: Experience working with pumps or similar OEM equipmentKnowledge of water treatment processes and infrastructure projectsFamiliarity with CAD tools and 3D modelling softwareUnderstanding of project delivery within regulated environmentsWhy join us?
